Because Knowledge Is Powerful!

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) continue to be a major health concern in the United States and throughout the world. Although a great deal of progress has been made in recent years toward the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of many STDs, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia estimate that approximately 19 million new STD infections occur each year, almost half of them among young people ages 15 to 24.

Although articles appear all over the news about HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, Gonorrhea and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases, there is a wealth of basic information that has not been made readily available to the general public in language and terminology that is clearly written and understandable to the average non-medically trained person.

Well Done!
I recently read a newspaper article, “Teens, young adults bear disproportionate share of STD’s”  by Gracie Bonds Staples.  As a father with a son in this age group I wanted more information on STD’s so I could share some educated thoughts to discuss with him.I found this book to be extremely helpful, informative and most importantly, well written. This enabled me to better understand the subject matter.  I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about STD’s, especially parents who need to discuss the subject in an informed way.

Important and Accessible…
As an educator and a parent, I found this book to be a wonderful resource. Obviously, it is important that it contains factual and direct information but is is equally important that it is laid out in a way that supports quick retrieval of information. I would recommend it for every secondary school and college student.
